Change the personality of your room with art

Ever wanted to change the direction of a space in your home halfway through the decorating process? Or perhaps you have a room that you’ve partially furnished, but never really finished? Art is the perfect way to bring new personality into your space. And the great thing about our art options is that you could go in so many directions, depending on which pieces you choose. Art just has the uncanny ability to take a room in a new direction!

As an example, take our Sybil Settee. We love tailored, feminine feel it has, but see how the whole space transforms depending on the art we hang over it!

How Art Can Finish a Room

Bedroom with large painting

When designing a room, every designer and homeowner knows there are many layers. Of course there are the walls, floors, and windows. Then you have your large furniture pieces, and your lighting, and your rugs. You also have accessories and soft goods. And then finally you have your art pieces. All of these layers play a very important role in turning a room into a space you love. Oftentimes though, the art is one of the last pieces brought into the room, and we actually find it can be the most transformative layer of them all!

1 Fabric, 4 Ways: Ticking Stripe

4 ways to use a classic ticking stripe fabric

When we’re designing fabrics, it’s always fun to envision where those designs will live in our customers’ homes. In the case of a classic ticking stripe, there are limitless ways to use this never-go-out-of-style print.

A small ticking stripe looks fantastic as a dining chair cushion (here, we have it on our LeMans Dining Chair). Since the scale of the stripe is small, it works well for items that don’t have a lot of surface area. We also can’t help but love a stripe in the bedroom — on a bedskirt, duvet, and even a headboard. An orderly bedroom is a relaxing space, which is why we love using stripes here!

If you’re a little more daring, perhaps you want to use a ticking stripe on a large sectional. A print is actually a great choice for a large upholstered piece because it hides stains so well! Here, we’ve used it on our Eton Sectional. And if you really just want to bring a touch of ticking into your home, a simple throw pillow works beautifully.

So which way do you like this print best? Would you use our Ticking Stripe in your own home?

Spring Color Palette: Spa & Cream Bedroom

Spa and cream bedroom color palette

First and foremost, we believe a bedroom should be relaxing. This should be a space where you retreat, relax, and recover, so it’s important to make design choices that will help you achieve that relaxing feeling. For some people, that may mean a bright and cheery hue they love. Others, it may mean all white. For us, we just still can’t shake our love of spa. The perfect combination of gray, green, and blue, spa is our perfect color, so when designing the ultimate bedroom retreat, it was a no brainer.

For this bedroom, we put a slightly more modern twist on the space by using clean-lined furniture pieces (our Isabella Collection). We also stayed true to our color palette — everything is in either spa, cream, or a weathered wood finish. Having everything coordinate so perfectly makes the space feel serene and polished, perfect for when you want to relax.

A pair of our Mariette Table Lamps coordinate beautifully with this bedroom because of its simple but sculptural shape. This column shape has a more modern feel, which we really dig for this bedroom. For the overhead lighting, we used a Carriage House Chandelier in our Antique Silver finish. We love the way the shape of this chandelier echoes the trim pattern on our Isabella Collection.

For the final flourishes, we hung a pair of Memories Found Art over the bed. They work with our spa and cream color palette, and the silver frames complement our chandelier. And no room is complete without a couple of throw pillows. Here we used Savannah Burlap throw pillows in mineral.
