West Indies bamboo 3 drawer dresser from Ballard Designs with palm leaf chair

The Asian-inspired bamboo motif is just about everywhere we look, but it’s more than just a passing trend. Finding its way from the Silk Roads of China to the Palace of Versailles and into our homes today, the bamboo look has proved it has real staying power.

Fresh, airy and chic, the organic texture of faux bamboo has universal appeal in any interior, indoors or out, which is why we love it so much, especially in the summertime. Add a touch to any space and it instantly livens it up a little, something every room needs.

Here’s how we’re infusing the bamboo look in our homes.

When furniture designers began to adapt traditional British furniture to reflect the more tropical locales of the British Empire, a new style was born. Our West Indies Chest and Nightstand are a nod to the inviting mix of styles that defines British colonial design. Ours are artisan crafted in Italy with marble top and hardwood base — with subtle bamboo style carvings.

Great design is all about the artful mix. Our petite Bamboo Julep Vase is an Eastern take on the traditional julep cup. It’s perfectly sized for a bundle of buds fresh cut from the garden, or for keeping make-up brushes or toothbrushes. Crafted from stainless steel and brass with bamboo details, it brings a subtle exotic touch to any room.

The classic fretwork design of our Dayna Chairs is one of the hallmarks of Chinese Chippendale styling, popularized in the 18th century by English cabinet maker, Thomas Chippendale. The bamboo motif plays just as well with the more formal elements in the room as it does with the relaxed jute rug.

Our Mei Pagoda Shelf doubles down on the timeless Chinoiserie-chic style with an ancient pagoda silhouette and bamboo motif. The gold finish and airy glass shelves bring a glamorous Hollywood Regency vibe to the design, making it a beautiful addition to a dresser in a bedroom or bathroom.

Our Macau Armchairs, also designed in the Chinese Chippendale style, are proof that the bamboo motif works anywhere. These chairs are equally chic in an urban loft or a sunny beach retreat. They’re hand crafted of mahogany with rattan wrapped joints that add even more delicious texture.

Bamboo candle sconce from Ballard Designs

If you don’t want to invest in a piece of furniture, bring in the airy, exotic texture of bamboo with a framed mirror or sconce. Our Bamboo Candle Sconce has a bamboo-style frame with angled mirrored panes that reflect the light from every angle, creating a romantic wash of light.
