Urban terrace with Ballard Designs outdoor furniture

Last Week, Ballard Designs had the pleasure of sponsoring the Atlanta Food & Wine Festival, which if you’ve never been is a whirl weekend of delicious bites, creative cocktails, and a whole lotta Southern cooking that will keep your tastebuds happy! Food and drink-lovers of all types are invited to Midtown Atlanta to take part in this culinary festival, and lucky us, we were there to offer up some comfortable spaces to relax in between cooking classes, enjoy a treat hot-off-the-grill on the Ballard Bites Grilling Terrace, or kick back in the VIP Connoisseur Lounge.

We couldn’t help but share the gorgeous spaces here on How to Decorate, like the seating area above on the Ballard Bites Grilling Terrace. With a glass backdrop as dramatic as this one, we wanted to bring in some softness with our ultra-comfortable Laurel Collection. Symmetry was the name of the game in the space above with pairs of sofas, chairs, and even a pair of ottomans!

Outdoor terrace in urban space

We love the way our classically woven Laurel Collection feels juxtaposed against sleek, planes of glass! Sometimes combining two things that feel very different just works!

What you can’t see is that just to the right of these comfortable spaces were tons of Big Green Eggs ready to serve up tasty appetizers and smoky delights!

Also on the grilling terrace, we used a trio of Ceylon Teak Dining Collections to create a long banquette table where festival-goers could gather family-style to enjoy the dish du jour. For a bold accent, we chose the Bermuda Indoor/Outdoor Rug in Rust!

Two paradise-inspired cabanas made from canopy beds

In the Welcome Center of the festival, we set up two paradise-inspired cabanas! With gauzy linens draping from the canopy, groupings of lanterns, and plenty of plush throw pillows, we were ready to just camp out here for the weekend!

Coastal-inspired canopy bed

Inspired by the beach, we used a lime green and turquoise color palette here, reminiscent of aquamarine waters and leafy palm trees!

Cabana canopy beds in turquoise stripe

We used one of our favorite decorating tricks in this space, mixing lots of varied patterns together by sticking to a very cohesive color palette.

Patterned throw pillows in turquoise and lime green

Even though we used lots of patterns in this space, it doesn’t feel too busy as long as you don’t incorporate any new colors here. Aqua and green almost become neutrals in this cabana-inspired space because we’ve used them from top-to-bottom!

Turquoise planters

Even our planters and greenery suited our paradise-inspired color palette!

Lanterns hung from bed canopy

Hanging a few lanterns from the canopy of our Louisa Canopy Bed created that tropical vibe we were aiming for, and by using Remote Controlled LED pillar candles inside each lantern, its easy to create a romantic feel without any safety risks!

Coral and spa living area

The last two spaces we designed for the festival were comfortable living areas right outside the cooking classrooms, perfect for kicking back and enjoying the AC before heading in to get a lesson from a fantastic chef!

Coral and spa living area

You may have seen the coral and spa color palette in our Spring catalog, and it was that gorgeous combination that inspired these rooms! Again, symmetry was big part of the room design here, with a pair of sofas, a pair of slipcovered Eton Club Chairs, and even a pair of Coral Needlepoint Benches!

We were thrilled to be a part of the Atlanta Food & Wine Festival this year! Hope you enjoyed getting a glimpse into these fun spaces!
