Recipe: Pimm's No.1 Cocktail Sangria

This is a twist on a traditional Pimm’s cocktail which is served at The Napoleon House in New Orleans and is a Mardi Gras tradition. Nothing says it’s party time like a big pitcher of sangria stuffed with colorful fruit! This recipe combines the two recipes into one magical drink fit for a Mardi Gras celebration.


Recipe: Pimm's No.1 Sangria Cocktail

Serves: 10-12
 
Ingredients
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • Zest and juice from 2 limes
  • 1  small cucumber, halved and sliced thin
  • 2 pints strawberries, tops removed and sliced thin
  • 2 oranges, halved and sliced thin
  • 2  lemons,halved and sliced thin
  • 2 green apples, halved and core removed and sliced thin
  • 1 bottle Pimm's No. 1 Cup
  • 2 cups gin
  • 1 cup lime simple syrup (recipe below)
  • 2 liter bottle Sprite or citrus soda
  • 4 quarts ice
  • Mint sprigs for garnish
Instructions
  1. To make the lime simple syrup, combine sugar, water, and limezest and juice. Cook sugar and water on stove till dissolved, stirring frequently. Remove from heat and stir in lime juice and zest. Allow to cool to room temp before using.
  2. Wash and slice all fruit.
  3. Wash and slice all fruit.
  4. Layer fruit, mint and ice in large pitcher.
  5. Pour in Pimms, gin, soda and simple syrup and stir well.
