This week, we’re excited to feature bedrooms from some of our favorite design bloggers, all featuring some of our newest bedding items. Anita of Cedar Hill Farmhouse is a writer, photographer, and lover of all things French. On Cedar Hill Farmhouse, she blogs about French style on a budget.
It always seems I have one room that isn’t quite right. You know the room. It’s the one that has real potential, but feels incomplete or disjointed. It’s missing a certain something. Lately that room has been my bedroom at our Round Top farm, Cedar Hill.
With all of the beautiful vistas I have lots of natural inspiration, including the glorious Texas Bluebonnets that bloom each spring. For my ‘problem room’ those bluebonnets became my inspiration. I chose to go in a decidedly BLUE direction.
The Ticking Stripe Bedding in Navy from Ballard Designs was just exactly what the room needed. It anchors the room, with a vintage, yet decidedly modern feel all at the same time. Crisp and clean with the darling ties, it suits the room beautifully. The blue striped duvet although it adds a touch of color to the room, still works basically as a neutral. To give the duvet a full, rich look, I added two down-filled duvets rather than just one. I find that the overstuffed duvet makes the bed appear luxurious and inviting.
For this King-sized bed, I felt the taller Euro Sham pillows added some much needed height to the bed. I added crisp white pillows in front of the euro pillows, and topped it off with the monogrammed Callia Grosgrain Sham.
After I changed out the bedding, I took a look at the room, and began to edit. Several things in the room did not make the cut, including the lamps, the painting, and some accessories. I truly LOVE the painting, which is why I had such a difficult time saying good-bye to it, but it works beautifully in another room. Editing is a great way to improve the look of a room, without spending a dime. Simply remove what you don’t like in the room, and you will be amazed at how much better you like it. If the room looks sparse to you, then only add things you LOVE.
The new lamps are sized much better for the King-sized bed. I also cleaned up the accessories on the side tables, adding the antique blue bottles. For the final touch of luxury, I added roses. Fresh flowers just say ‘welcome’ like nothing else. Store them in the refrigerator overnight to extend their life.
